Brighton and Hove Pride celebrates its 35th anniversary this August with parades, street parties and live performances across two days.
A Celebration of 35 Years
Brighton and Hove is gearing up for its 35th Pride celebration, a milestone moment for one of the UK's most significant Pride events. With thousands of people expected to attend across the weekend of August 1 and 2, the city is preparing to honour the courage, protest, unity and love that have defined the LGBTQI+ community's journey through decades of change.
The Pride Parade
The heart of the celebrations begins with the annual community Pride parade on Saturday, August 1. Starting at 11am from Hove Lawns, the parade will travel along the seafront before making its way into the city via King's Road, West Street and North Street. The route continues up London Road, where it will disperse at Preston Road at approximately 4pm.
This year's theme, "the power of love," reflects the community's resilience through significant historical moments, including Clause 28 and the AIDS crisis. The parade brings together thousands of participants from LGBTQ+ organisations, charities, businesses and community groups, creating a vibrant display of solidarity and celebration.
The Pride Street Party
For the second year running, the Pride Street Party takes centre stage on Marine Parade throughout both Saturday and Sunday. The street party features multiple drag stages and a variety of music zones and bars in collaboration with nearby venues.
On Saturday, festivities run from 3pm until 11pm, while Sunday sees the party begin at 2pm and finish at 9pm. The lineup includes performances from Gok Wan, Bimini and many other performers, ensuring entertainment throughout the weekend.
Travel and Getting There
With thousands expected to descend on Brighton and Hove, organisers are advising residents and visitors to plan their travel arrangements in advance. Extra train services will be put on over the weekend to help manage the increased footfall, so those travelling by rail should check with their provider for updated schedules.
A Note on Local Areas
It's worth noting that St James's Street remains outside the Pride area and will have no outside bars or music over the weekend, consistent with previous years, allowing venues in that area to operate as usual.
