Vagabond Wines Opens First Bar Outside London in The Lanes
A self-service wine bar opens on Duke Street on Monday, offering customers the chance to pour from over 100 wines using a card-based system.
A new wine bar offering customers self-service pour technology is opening in Brighton's Lanes this week. Vagabond Wines opens at 3-4 Duke Street on Monday, November 2, replacing part of the former Browns Brasserie site, which closed in May 2025 after 52 years.
Unlike traditional bars, customers at Vagabond pour their own drinks using machines. The system works by guests tapping a card, selecting a wine from the bar's collection of over 100 options, and choosing their pour size. The smallest option available is a 25ml taster, with half and full glasses also on offer.
Wine Selection
The venue includes English wines from Vagabond's Urban Winery in London, produced using grapes from Sussex and the South East. Head winemaker Jose Quintana, who grew up on a farm in Sussex, oversees these wines, providing a local connection to the range.
Staff are available to guide customers through the selection, helping them navigate choices and discover new wines without committing to purchasing a full glass of each.
Food and Venue Details
Food is served alongside the drinks, with modern European small plates and shareable dishes on the menu. The two-floor venue has capacity for 79 guests indoors and a further 18 outside.
This opening marks Vagabond's first location outside London in five years. Interim managing director Graham Hall previously stated: "It's been a while since we opened a new bar outside of London, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place to do it."
Preview Offer
Vagabond is offering a limited preview period with 50 per cent discount on food until Sunday, November 1. Guests interested in accessing the venue before the official Monday opening can join the Brighton guest list.
