Lost and Found granted permission for outdoor seating at Brighton taproom
The popular Ditchling Road venue can now welcome customers to its outside decking area after planning permission was approved.
Cheers to good news for one of Brighton's beloved independent venues. Lost and Found, the beer shop and tap room on Ditchling Road, has received the green light from Brighton and Hove City Council to welcome customers on its outside decking.
Community support backs the venue
The planning application, submitted in April, has proven popular with the local community. Neighbours sent 18 comments in support of the scheme, with one anonymous supporter calling Lost and Found "a much-valued independent business that makes a positive contribution to the Fiveways community."
They added: "The outdoor seating area provides a friendly, relaxed environment where people can enjoy good weather and spend time socialising with friends and neighbours."
Careful management in place
While the decision is welcome news for the venue and its customers, the council has put careful measures in place to protect the residential area. The outdoor space can operate from 9am to 9pm daily, though customers can remain on the premises until 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
No activity is permitted between 11.30pm and 6.30am from Sunday to Thursday, or after midnight at weekends.
Strict noise controls
Owner Jon Rutter has agreed to implement a comprehensive noise management plan. The conditions mean no amplified music is permitted outdoors, and any music must pass through a noise pollution control system that has been calibrated by an acoustic consultant.
Rutter is also required to keep a complaints log and respond to any noise complaints within 24 hours, ensuring the venue remains a good neighbour to the surrounding residential community.
Building on recent success
The outdoor seating approval comes following the venue's successful application last September to extend its alcohol licensing hours. Lost and Found continues to establish itself as a valued fixture in the Fiveways area, and this decision should allow it to make the most of Brighton's weather when it appears.
The permission reflects the council's approach of supporting local independent businesses while maintaining protections for residents and the wider community.
