Community bid window opens for the Montreal Arms

The Albion Hill pub is up for sale, and as an Asset of Community Value local groups have a limited time to register an interest in bidding.

Brighton & Hove Editorial27 October 2026

The Montreal Arms on Albion Hill is up for sale again, which under its Asset of Community Value status opens a window for the community to step in. The pub was listed as an Asset of Community Value in November 2023, after an application by the Friends of the Montreal Arms.

Registering an interest tells the council that a group wishes to be considered as a potential bidder. If anyone registers before the cut-off, a six-month moratorium is triggered, giving campaigners time to raise funds and put an offer together. If no community bidders come forward by 3 November, the owner is free to proceed with an open-market sale.

Anyone wishing to register before the deadline has been urged to contact the council's legal officers.
