Cottesmore School Cricketers Selected to Represent Sussex

Two girls from Cottesmore School have been selected to represent Sussex after progressing through the county's competitive cricket trials.

Brighton & Hove Editorial2 November 2026

Two pupils from Cottesmore School have secured selection to represent Sussex in cricket following the county's competitive trial process.

All three girls from the school who entered the trials progressed through to the selection stage, with two now set to represent the county. The achievement is notable because the girls are home-grown cricketers who have developed almost entirely through school-based opportunities rather than external clubs.

School-Based Development

The girls have worked consistently to improve their game, making regular use of Cottesmore's indoor cricket nets during lunchtimes and participating in one-to-one coaching sessions. They have also invested additional time during the off-season to develop their skills beyond the standard school programme.

Cricket coach Charlie Gold has been instrumental in their progress, providing coaching both during term time and throughout the school holidays. His support, combined with the girls' dedication and willingness to respond to feedback, enabled all three to reach the trial stage.

Charloe Gold said, "All three girls worked incredibly hard and showed real commitment to the game. Their achievement reflects the growing strength of the schools cricket programme."

Inspiration for Younger Players

Cottesmore says the success of the two selected players provides encouragement for younger pupils at the school who are starting their own cricket journeys. The school points to the example as evidence of what can be achieved through dedication, regular practice and using opportunities available at school.

The school expressed its intention to follow the progress of the girls as they begin their Sussex cricket journey.
