Public art trail brings colour to city streets
More than 30 decorated benches have appeared across Brighton and Hove as part of a free public art initiative. The BookBench Story Trail, organised by Sussex charity Amaze, features sculptures created by artists and runs until 8 November 2026.
The benches showcase a variety of designs, ranging from Brighton and Hove Albion imagery and the city's well-known landmarks to wildlife, cats and underwater creatures. Photographer Paula Widdowson from the Argus Camera Club has documented the collection of brightly painted sculptures.
Route and locations
The trail stretches across the city, running from Brighton Marina in the east to Portslade and Patcham in the west. The benches offer visitors places to rest and explore whilst experiencing the artwork on display throughout the city.
Community and creativity
The collection aims to celebrate art and storytelling whilst providing seating for residents and visitors. The sculptures represent the creative and community spirit of Brighton and Hove's residents and local artists.
