Christmas Market Marks Opening of New Valley Gardens Public Square
A Christmas market will launch the new public space in front of the Royal Pavilion, running from November to December.
First event for new city centre space
The newly created public square in front of the Royal Pavilion will welcome its opening event this Christmas. Cole's Family Funfairs is organising a traditional market from 26 November to 27 December, open daily from midday to 9pm.
The space was created as part of the third phase of Brighton and Hove City Council's Valley Gardens revamp, which has involved rerouting roads from The Level to the Palace Pier.
What's on offer
Visitors will find Christmas crafts alongside food and drink options including hot chocolate, mulled wine, cheese, desserts and a Bavarian grill. The market will also host live music on some days.
Cabinet member for tourism David McGregor said: "It's great to be bringing a traditional Christmas Market to Valley Gardens and making good use of our newest public space. The central and well-connected location will help to draw visitors to the city centre where they can easily get to the seafront, shopping areas and attractions to eat, drink, and spend time."
Future plans for the space
The council is planning to host additional events at Valley Gardens throughout 2027. McGregor also confirmed that the popular ice rink will return for Christmas 2027 at a new venue at the Old Steine, rather than at Valley Gardens.
The Christmas market opening represents the first major activation of the newly completed public square, which sits prominently in Brighton's city centre near key attractions and shopping areas.
