Brighton Blue gives way to green on the seafront railings

The council is repainting seafront railings and street furniture in a cheaper shade to save money.

Brighton & Hove Editorial27 October 2026

The turquoise shade known as Brighton Blue, used on the city's seafront railings and street furniture for more than 100 years, is being changed. Brighton & Hove City Council has chosen a similar colour, a light green known in the trade as RAL light green, as a way of cutting costs.

The council says the new shade is close to the familiar one, and the change will apply as railings and street furniture are repainted.
