Rescue dog walks couple down the aisle just days after adoption
Miss Beetle, a Patterdale terrier cross spaniel rescued by the RSPCA, became part of a couple's wedding just three weeks after finding her forever home.
A rescue dog has found her happy ending with a couple from Sandwich, Kent, and played a starring role at their wedding just weeks after moving into her new home.
Miss Beetle, a two-year-old Patterdale terrier cross spaniel, was adopted by Sam and Ryan Aubrey-Williams on 4 September after spending time in the care of the RSPCA Sussex North and Brighton Branch. Within just 20 days, she walked the couple down the aisle at their wedding at Sandwich Guildhall.
From rescue to family
The couple had been searching for a rescue dog for a couple of years. "We always say we'd adopt, but somehow we'd never been picked," Sam explained. Everything changed when they spotted Miss Beetle on the animal centre's TikTok account. They applied straightaway, describing her as "absolutely stunning" and full of affection.
Miss Beetle's early life had been difficult. She had been kept in a crate 24 hours a day and had never been outside before her rescue by the RSPCA. Ann Bolton from the RSPCA Sussex North and Brighton Branch explained: "When she came to us she was very nervous. As she gained confidence she came out of her shell and became very excitable and affectionate."
Despite her challenging start, Miss Beetle quickly became part of the Aubrey-Williams family. Ryan said: "She is a curtain twitcher. She likes to look out the window. She is the most loving dog too, she comes up on the couch and she loves cuddles."
A special wedding day
The couple wanted Miss Beetle to be part of their wedding day, and she made an unforgettable entrance. Ryan described the moment: "She was the star of the show. She walked down the aisle with us, we were hand in hand and she was in the middle, and she was there when we were getting married. It felt like she was part of our puzzle being complete on that day."
The Aubrey-Williams' story is being shared as part of the RSPCA's Adoptober campaign, which encourages people to rehome rescue animals. Other dogs at the RSPCA Sussex North and Brighton Branch are also waiting for their forever homes this Adoptober, including Kermit, Mr Slippers and OJ. Each dog has different needs and personalities, and the RSPCA is appealing to experienced dog owners who can offer the time and support these animals need to thrive in a new environment.
