Finding the Right Words: How Lorna Marsh Blends Hypnotherapy, Counselling and Neuroscience to Help Brighton and Hove Build Confidence

Applied hypnotherapy, counselling and a feel for the neuroscience of change, from a Hove therapist helping people find their confidence and their voice.

Brighton & Hove Editorial21 October 2026

Most people arrive at hypnotherapy carrying a quiet worry that they will lose control, or say something they would rather keep to themselves. Lorna Marsh hears it often, and it is usually the first thing she puts to rest. Her work, rooted in applied hypnotherapy, counselling and a genuine interest in how the brain forms its patterns, is less about the theatrical idea of hypnosis and far more about helping people in Brighton and Hove find the words, and the confidence, to move forward.

Where counselling meets the science of the mind

What sets Lorna's practice apart is the way she draws together three strands that often sit in separate rooms. There is the counselling, the careful listening that helps a person understand where they have been. There is the applied hypnotherapy, which works with the subconscious patterns that hold people back. And underpinning both is her interest in neurology, in why the mind repeats the stories it tells itself, and how those stories can be gently rewritten. By combining counselling's warmth with hypnotherapy's reach, she helps clients get underneath the surface rather than simply managing the symptoms.

Communication, confidence and connection

Ask Lorna what her sessions are really about and the answer comes back to three words: communication, confidence and connection. Many of the people she works with are capable, often successful, but something in the way they speak to themselves, or to others, is getting in their way. Her approach helps people reclaim their own voice, and clients frequently describe the change as feeling more like themselves, not less.

What a session actually feels like

One client, writing a five star review, described her first session. "Lorna had a friendly and supportive way of communicating with me to find out what I wanted to gain from the session. She was really informative and explained exactly what was going to happen," they wrote. "When the session started, she counted me down and the session took me to places I didn't necessarily expect. I was in control of myself but was being guided by Lorna in a really lovely way." What stayed with them was how closely Lorna had listened: "She remembered details we had spoken about but hadn't written any of that down," before adding, "I already feel a positive change and I look forward to seeing how this impacts me in the future." It is far from the only such account, with a steady collection of reviews across Facebook and Google saying much the same.

Based in Hove, working across Brighton and online

Lorna is based in Hove and works with clients right across Brighton and Hove, and because so much of her work is about communication rather than location, she also offers sessions online, so someone can begin from their own front room at a time that fits a busy life.

A free session, in exchange for an honest review

Lorna is currently offering a free session in exchange for an honest review. It is an invitation aimed at the person who is curious but cautious, who has wondered whether hypnotherapy might help but never quite taken the step. For anyone who has been putting it off, it is a rare chance to find out, first hand and at no cost, what a session actually involves.
