Hollingdean

A residential valley neighbourhood north-east of the centre, Victorian terraces and twentieth-century housing beside Wild Park. BN1.

Hollingdean is a predominantly residential neighbourhood in a valley between Fiveways, Ditchling Road and the open ground of Hollingbury, north-east of the centre. A mix of Victorian terraces on its lower slopes and twentieth-century council-built housing higher up, it has long been a working community and remains one of the more affordable parts of inner Brighton.

The area sits close to the University of Sussex and Brighton's hospital, and its edges give quick access to the green spaces of Hollingbury and Wild Park, one of the city's largest nature reserves with Iron Age earthworks on the hilltop. Local life centres on the community hub and the parade of shops, and the valley setting keeps it quietly tucked away from the busier corridors on either side.
