A close-knit hillside neighbourhood of colourful terraces east of The Level, famous for its community pubs and strong local spirit. BN2.
Hanover is the steep, close-knit neighbourhood of colourful terraced streets on the hillside east of The Level and Queen's Park Road. Built largely for workers in the second half of the nineteenth century, its tightly packed two-storey cottages have earned it the affectionate nickname "Muesli Mountain" for its mix of long-standing residents and a strong community of creatives, families and professionals.
The heart of the area is a cluster of excellent community pubs, among the best-loved in the city, along with a handful of corner shops and cafes. Hanover has a famously strong community spirit, with street parties, local groups and one of the highest concentrations of independent pubs per resident anywhere in Brighton. The hillside streets give sweeping views across the city towards the sea.
