A grand Regency seafront quarter on the Brighton and Hove boundary, with celebrated squares, crescents, and a lively cosmopolitan feel. BN3.
Brunswick Town is the grand Regency quarter straddling the old boundary between Brighton and Hove, built in the 1820s and 1830s as a planned seafront development of cream-stuccoed terraces. Brunswick Square and Brunswick Terrace, facing the sea across the lawns, are among the finest Regency set pieces in the country, matched by the sweeping crescent of nearby Adelaide Crescent and Palmeira Square behind.
Today the area is a sought-after and lively neighbourhood, its large houses now mostly flats, with a cosmopolitan feel and a cluster of cafes, restaurants and independent shops around Brunswick Street and Waitrose at the foot of Western Road. The Regency Town House, a museum restoring a single terrace home to its original state, tells the story of the quarter, and the seafront here is one of the most elegant stretches in the city.
