Good Morning, Brighton

Well, we've properly hit summer now, haven't we? June sunshine, the seafront packed with colour, and the city buzzing with new openings and things to do. Whether you're a longtime local or fairly new to Brighton & Hove, this is the week to get out and explore—the weather's smiling on us, and there's genuinely loads happening.

This Week in Brighton & Hove

- Fumi brings authentic Japanese dining to the city — Brighton's Japanese food scene just got even stronger. Fumi is earning serious praise for genuine, beautifully executed Japanese cuisine that stands out among the growing number of Japanese spots around town. Worth a visit if you're after something special.

- Burger & Beyond opens in the Lanes — London's award-winning burger chain is finally arriving in Brighton with a summer opening on Ship Street. If you've heard the hype from the capital, now's your chance to see what all the fuss is about without the train journey.

- The Lanes stay beautifully preserved — Brighton & Hove Council has protected the character of our cherished Old Town by refusing illuminated signage plans for the AllSaints store. It's lovely to see the heritage of those medieval alleyways being respected.

- Look ahead to the Royal Pavilion's dragon banquet — An immersive one-off event coming this July with live entertainment and a specially crafted menu. Absolutely unmissable if you love our iconic building and a bit of theatrical dinner theatre.

This Weekend

Saturday and Sunday are looking absolutely gorgeous for getting outside. Head to Brighton Beach if you fancy a proper dip or just a wander along the pebbles—it's free and runs the whole length of the seafront. If the kiddos are with you (or you're young at heart), Brighton Palace Pier is always a winner—it's free to stroll the length of that glorious Victorian structure, and the rides are there if you fancy a bit of fun.

For something quieter, Hove Lawns is ideal if you want to settle with a book or a picnic without the bustle of the main beach. Head west along the seafront and you'll find it peaceful and proper lovely.

Up north, Preston Park is absolutely perfect for summer—bring a blanket, grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafes, and just enjoy the space. It's genuinely one of our best-kept gems.

Where to Eat and Drink This Week

Since we're spotlighting Hove this week, Church Road and George Street are where it's at. Cin Cin on Church Road is a neighbourhood gem for Italian done right—the sort of place where regulars love it and newcomers immediately understand why. For something a bit more relaxed, The Gingerman on Hotel Street (just off Church Road) does brilliant Modern British food in a warm, unpretentious setting that feels genuinely local.

If you're after seafood, head down to the seafront near Hove and treat yourself—the coastline here is quieter and more elegant than the main Brighton stretch, and it's a proper summer experience.

Worth Knowing

Getting around: If you're heading to events or restaurants across the city, the buses are reliable and regular. The Volk's Electric Railway along the seafront is brilliant fun on a sunny day and genuinely the world's oldest operating electric railway—worth a ride if you've got time.

Looking ahead: August brings Brighton Pride, one of the biggest events in the LGBTQ+ calendar. It's not far off, so if you're planning to be involved, now's the time to check out what's happening in Kemp Town and start thinking about the weekend.

Enjoy the sunshine, Brighton. See you out and about!
