New Brighton and Hove Albion exhibition opens at city museum

A celebration of 125 years

Football fans across Brighton and Hove have a new reason to visit Pavilion Gardens, with the opening of Stand or Fall, an exciting new exhibition dedicated to the remarkable history of Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

The exhibition, which is now permanent, has been created in collaboration with the club and charts their incredible journey from their early beginnings through to their modern era of Premier League and European football. It celebrates not just the sporting achievements, but also the supporters, community and defining moments that have shaped the club's story.

What's on display

Visitors will find themselves immersed in Albion history through a carefully curated collection of memorabilia, archive material, and personal stories. The exhibition includes old seats, tickets and historic uniforms that bring the club's past to life.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is a striking model of the stadium, positioned prominently in the middle of the room and surrounded by ceiling-mounted screens playing clips from previous games. This interactive approach is expected to be a firm favourite with visitors, bringing the atmosphere and excitement of matchday directly to the museum.

Opening day reflections

Former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Mark McGhee attended the grand opening and praised the exhibition for its appeal to supporters. He noted that older fans will particularly enjoy the nostalgic elements on display, and said he plans to bring his own grandchildren to experience it.

When reflecting on the exhibition's future, Mr McGhee described it as "a living thing", suggesting that as the club's history continues to unfold, the exhibition may evolve and develop over time.

Operations Director of Brighton and Hove Albion Paul Mullen and CEO of Brighton and Hove Museums Hedley Swain were also present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mr Swain expressed his joy at bringing the exhibition to life, highlighting the close collaboration between the museum, the club, key partners and supporters in creating Stand or Fall.

Stand or Fall is now a permanent feature at Brighton and Hove Museum and Art Gallery in Pavilion Gardens, so whether you're a lifelong supporter or newer to the club, there's plenty of time to explore this celebration of Albion heritage.
