The Levellers announce special hometown show at Hove Park in 2026
The iconic Brighton band will headline an exclusive outdoor concert celebrating 35 years of their landmark album Levelling The Land.
Brighton's legendary Levellers are bringing a celebration home to Hove Park next year. The iconic band will headline an exclusive outdoor concert on Saturday, September 5, 2026, marking 35 years since the release of their landmark album Levelling The Land.
A Brighton Album Comes Home
For band members Mark Chadwick and Jeremy 'Jez' Cunningham, this homecoming show holds special significance. "It's going to be great to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Levelling The Land in Brighton," they said. "It's a Brighton album, 90 per cent of it was written in Brighton, a lot of the songs are about Brighton and its environs, so we are just made up to be playing in our home town."
The band reached platinum status with the 1991 album, which featured beloved tracks including One Way, 15 Years and Far From Home. They went on to achieve even greater success with their Number One album Zeitgeist in 1995 and have since become renowned for influencing festival culture, grassroots movements and generations of independent artists.
A Stellar Line-Up
The support bill features some truly standout names in British alternative music. Sleeper, known for their Britpop success in the 1990s, achieved eight Top 40 singles and have sold over one million records. Hastings punk-rockers Kid Kapichi join the bill following the release of their fourth album, Fearless Nature, while Brighton's Brakes will make a rare hometown appearance as part of their first live shows in over ten years. High-energy punk duo The Meffs from Essex complete the line-up.
A Meaningful Connection to Place
The Levellers' choice of Hove Park is particularly fitting. "Hove Park has an original standing stone in it – The Goldstone - which is good for us because we are hippies," Chadwick and Cunningham explained, highlighting the band's deep connection to the area's history and character.
Supporting the Community
The concert will also support important local work. An optional charity donation to Sussex Homeless will be available when purchasing tickets. The Levellers have worked closely with the charity for five years, and the band is passionate about the cause. "We've all been homeless back in the day, and we just used to squat, but you can't do that anymore, that's criminal now, so it's an issue close to our hearts."
The concert is presented by JOY. Concerts. Events and promises to be a memorable celebration of a landmark album and the band's enduring connection to Brighton and Hove.
