From The Ground Studio celebrates 25 young artists in Newhaven exhibition

Celebrating young creative voices

From The Ground Studio, an art collective based in East Sussex, is opening its doors to showcase the diverse work of more than 25 young artists. The exhibition, titled From The Ground Studio Open Call 02, will take place at the Atrium Gallery in Marine Workshops, Railway Approach, Newhaven, offering a platform for emerging creative talent.

A wide range of artistic practices

The exhibition features an impressive breadth of visual art practices, from traditional painting and sculpture to contemporary photography and installation work. While the majority of participating artists are local to Sussex, the collective has also welcomed contributions from artists based around the world, creating a truly international showcase of youth creativity.

The organisers behind the project – Orin Bird Johns, Rosie Red Souleiman and Matilda Strong – have curated a thoughtful selection of works that reflect what it means to be a young creative today. Alongside established names in the collective, the exhibition features artists including Konstantin Vorobiev, Ives Long, Henry Jackson, Václav Kargl, and many others who are bringing fresh perspectives to the local art scene.

Building community through art

Beyond the exhibition itself, From The Ground Studio is committed to fostering connection and engagement within the community. The collective will host a series of free art workshops, including paper folding, badge making and cordage sessions run by members of their collective. These workshops offer visitors an opportunity to engage directly with the creative process and get to know the artists behind the work.

A spokesperson from the collective explained their mission: "For us, creativity is a form of self-exploration, from which we gain the ability to be in better connection with ourselves and others. While our collective From The Ground tells a broader story, each of the works in our exhibition speaks of how it feels to be a young creative today. Our goal is to create authentic community through art."

The exhibition opens on September 9 and runs until Wednesday, September 20. Visitors can explore the gallery from Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 3pm. With free entry and a welcoming atmosphere, it's a wonderful opportunity to discover emerging talent and support young artists in our community.
